Carefree Coyote
Wool
Carefree Coyote wool comes from Sandy and Anthony Bauer's Targhee sheep
herd. Targhee sheep are known for their very fine wool (less than 23 microns)
which is high in lanolin, and never scratchy.
I took on the project of Carefree Coyote Wool when, after the birth of my
daughter, my mother surprised me with a sweater she knitted. She had been
keeping the knitting classes a secret, she says that she wanted to love me in a
way that I identified with. I could not believe my mall-loving mother now really
enjoyed knitting. Suddenly she wanted to MAKE Christmas and birthday
presents for everyone. She kept telling me how popular knitting was
becoming, and taught me how.
I wanted high-quality natural fibers, but couldn't find any near me. As I looked
out at my sheep I knew this was the year to start using our wool. It is natural
yarn, with a conscious. Why the name Carefree Coyote? We do not hunt, trap
or allow hunting or trapping of any predators on our land!
These sheep are cared for in a natural manner; raised on pasture that is never
treated with poisons, wholly grass-fed. Our wool is sheared off once a year,
and sent out to be processed into yarn and other wool products. It is
processed into yarn at a museum in Canada. It is not washed with harsh
chemicals, so it retains some if its moisturizing, and water-proof qualities.
